A potentially sticky situation
My phone has been having this habit of taking just one photo before dying on me lately, beginning with Hydrosapiens last week. This time it's this spiderweb, which happens to be the biggest I've ever seen. And nicest too. The photo's far from perfect, but the left half's still rather decent!

Spoilt watch spoils Sunday morning
Singapore - No thanks to a faulty Swatch watch and a dead phone battery, this writer has been forced to return home from the beach an entire hour earlier because his watch showed the time to be an hour faster than in reality. As a result, his trip there was just short of a complete waste of fuel as he had only intended to spend 2 hours there, inclusive of travel time. The only saving grace was the driving practice it provided. When contacted, he had this to say: "Yes, I'm furious. I've heard of watches getting slower when they spoil or the battery goes weak, but faster?! That is absurd." And so in all absurdity, this post is written as a pseudo article.
Editor's note: Upon subsequent investigation, it was discovered that the watch had gone 11 hours slower, but the above is still published to document the utter irritation and the change of emotions from disappointment to bewilderment and irritation.

A post about Saturday
Time flies when you're having fun, it's already Monday, and I'm here to talk about Saturday. Having caught Get Smart with Miki, Mervin, Richard, Cherie and Yiwen in an outing which gave me a sense of deja vu, (although it wasn't as bad), I'm finally about done with this one movie a week marathon which started with Made of Honour on the 18th of May. Lol, that's more than a month ago.. anyway I thought the show was quite nice in the end. Initially I was thinking it was funny, but not quite there... until past the half way mark where *spoiler* Mr. President was reading to a bunch of kids. Heh, sorry but I just have a thing for such references =D
Anyhow everyone leaving pretty fast after that also turned out to be a good thing since I just (like not a second too late to catch the last shuttle bus) managed to catch Hydosapiens, the closing act for the Singapore Arts Festival at Bedok Reservoir. Hah, I was quite sore that I missed the opening act because I got the time wrong, so when I chanced across the banner for it while at the reservoir on Friday, I knew I had to catch it. Plus, it was near my house too!
Alas, it was a bit too arty for me and I couldn't catch some parts, in particular one that was related to the ending.. like this....thing?
And so I was left to play the guessing game which was quite fun actually haha, and I spent the rest of the trip home pondering the age old question, "What is Art?"
15 minutes later, I ended up with another tonne of questions instead and still no answer.. but hey, my brain's been rusting.. I can tell you about det cords, deltas, and double positive charges though. =P

Anyhow everyone leaving pretty fast after that also turned out to be a good thing since I just (like not a second too late to catch the last shuttle bus) managed to catch Hydosapiens, the closing act for the Singapore Arts Festival at Bedok Reservoir. Hah, I was quite sore that I missed the opening act because I got the time wrong, so when I chanced across the banner for it while at the reservoir on Friday, I knew I had to catch it. Plus, it was near my house too!
Alas, it was a bit too arty for me and I couldn't catch some parts, in particular one that was related to the ending.. like this....thing?
And so I was left to play the guessing game which was quite fun actually haha, and I spent the rest of the trip home pondering the age old question, "What is Art?"

Oh, and I have to say that I was amazed at the number of people who turned up.

Looked like it was National Day.. But like the national day parade, there were crying babies and people who were just there to see the fireworks (not that there were much anyway).. Sigh, makes me wonder whether bringing the arts to the heartlands actually introduces more people to the arts or just highlights the not so nice side of the Singaporean. But then that would depend on what art is in the first place and it's purpose.. which is another question altogether.
In other news, I just got my photocard license an hour ago! Yay, that's the last fullstop to my L-plate days at last! 365 days. That's exactly how long between the day I passed my BTT and the day I passed my Practical. Lol.

And so at last it's finally happened. One off pass, one appt., one attend C and one trip to the MO later, I get a 2 month status and poof, I'm out of course (OOC). All within 36 hours. Never really expected things to turn out this way, a bit too sudden and kinda unexpected in a way. I mean, I was looking to get out because physically, my back couldn't take it even though it's supposed to be curved within acceptable limits or some crap, and mentally I couldn't find the will to fight to do something I don't believe in.
But still, just less than a week away from finishing the basic phase and getting my beret.. it does feel a bit wasted, not to mention the future being an unknown again. And then there's also the bunk mates that I had to leave to move to the OOC bunk so that we do not influence or demoralise them. Lol, they're screwed up XD but it was still kinda fun haha haiz..
So now I'm forced to clear leave till this Monday, a good 5 day break before I get sent to do whatever nonsense they want us to do (or fatigue work as they call it).. which hopefully will be limited by my status.

The PC Show 2008
Tomorrow, I shall get myself a new monitor at last. Was supposed to get it about 2 years ago when I did up my com but since it was still working, I couldn't bear to spend the money. Now, it's starting to become spoilt already, so off I went to the PC show to hunt for one, and boy was I shocked. In recent years the PC show has become so over run with printers and cameras that people say the PC stands for Printer and Camera rather that Personal Computer. And this year, Sharp(or some other TV maker) some new entrant PaRiSiLk has taken the show to newer heights by selling.... Microwaves.
Great, soon it'll be called The Electronics Show.
But to their credit the show's been expanded to 3 levels and it's less congested than last time I went (can't remember if it was last year). And I'm still trying to decide on a monitor, never realised they got so many different specifications.. Always thought it was just reaction time and size. But the show wasn't too bad, jokes weren't hilarious but the kung-fu sequences were quite funny. That said, I still can't help but wonder about a panda having a bird for a father.. Hmm..
And damn, Father's Day is tomorrow *hint those who forgot hint* and my stupid wing makes us book in an hour earlier cause Monday got range. In sispec, we booked in half an hour later for Mother's Day!

But to their credit the show's been expanded to 3 levels and it's less congested than last time I went (can't remember if it was last year). And I'm still trying to decide on a monitor, never realised they got so many different specifications.. Always thought it was just reaction time and size. Nevertheless, I still hope to be out of there in an hour tmr lol. Time is too precious!

An Irony
Ah, I just finished my last shift for guard duty. Now just waiting for my instant noodles to be done. Guard Duty's supposed to be an additional chore that's "part of soldiering". But here, (weekday) guard duty is the life man! Relatively speaking of course. Now wat an irony.

Time really is relative.
Ahhh... the weekends couldn't seem shorter these days.. Especially when the weekdays seem to pass twice as slow. It seems like I've been in there for a month already when only 2 weeks have really passed. Haiz.. Dunno why I can't seem to adept to this place as well as the rest. Or maybe they aren't complaining hah. Admin time here is really admin time. Just enough for you to go wash up, prep for the next day and go sleep. Everyday wake up, breakfast, area cleaning if no time, area inspection if got, 8am training, lunch, training till 6, dinner, sai kang, admin, sleep. Repeat X5 till bookout. Sometimes still got night training. So super sianz. I'll totally die if the rest of my NS life is like this..<>.<>
Haiz.. nevermind. In better news, I finally got my license! Haha, yea, my instructor suddenly gave me 13 missed calls on weds and told me he forgot that he booked a test date (which was yesterday morning) for me. And since I thought my FTT was gonna expire this year (turns out to be next) I decided to just risk it. Lol, 150 dollar gamble haiz. But it paid off lah, turns out the last day of my PDL's validity was yesterday too haha. And my wing agreed to let me out an hour earlier to go for another lesson on Fri.
But despite all this I was still freaking nervous during the test. Haiz. My leg was trembling again as I was desperately trying to control the clutch.. Only managed to regain control when.. yes.. I hit down the parking pole. My heart nearly dropped then lah.. I thought fail already. First time in my life I knock down the pole had to be during my test. But fortunately the tester very nice, haha, quite encouraging too, keep telling me to just concentrate on my driving when I ask him if I failed already heh.
So after nearly a whole year of waiting for test dates, alternating between having lessons every day and not having even 1 for months, postponing test dates.. I finally get my license! All that's left is the photocard license which I gave a JC photo. In school uniform no less. Haiz, I figured it's better that than having a botak photo which will remind me of these conscript days. In the meantime, it's practice and more practice with my dad's car! Haha, really quite different. Without the clutch, it's like permanently in half clutch when you don't touch the paddles. And it seems impossible to do the parking technique they teach when you don't have the poles around =/ Oh and while I was queuing to make my license, I saw this:

Haha, I sound like a kid. But recently I found something new to play with lol. I think it's called Paper Craft - basically models you can print and make using your printer. Quite cool heh, it was featured in last week's digital life. And so I made this:
