The meaning of life... and other nonsense
Hmm... I guess 42 should answer this as well right? XD but no, I didn't read that book, found that out by playing the wicked (that wei kiat thingy) a long time ago...
Oh well, found Jian Wei saying something about the meaning of life on his blog, so I'll just throw in my 2 cents worth on the topic as well. Heh.. I just feel obliged to at least blog something to keep my blog alive, but I've been so tired and lazy recently...Ok, here goes nothing....
The meaning of life is....... what you make it out to be!! yay... anticlimatic. Haha, but seriously, there is no point in searching for the meaning of life. Asking questions like "Why are we here?" "What is our purpose?" is unlikely to yield any correct answers unless you believe in a religion or something. But in this case, fact would be based on belief and for the rest who do not have that belief, the answers given might not go down well with them.
Besides, knowing the reason for our existence as members of the human race or simply a living organism isn't going to make much difference. The general world population has a common set of ideals and morals which trascend all boundaries, but yet this common knowledge of what should be done is not carried out by all individauls simply due to the existence of selfishness in human nature. So what if the purpose of our existence turns out to be providing aid to the needy or making the world a better place to live in? Is the world likely to cease all it's damaging activities? I doubt so. Take the US stance on the Kyoto Protocol on greenhouse gas emmisions for example.
So to put it crudely, what the heck man, ask less questions, do more.. Life is short and it sucks. People in Japan can expect to live up to 85 or 86 while people in South Africa or something can only live up to about 50, so yea, it's a cold unfair world and there's pretty much nothingthat can be done about it.
Just live your life the way you want to. Do what you want to, do what you need to, do what you think you should do. Reflect along the way and someday, the answers'll come your way.

Oh well, found Jian Wei saying something about the meaning of life on his blog, so I'll just throw in my 2 cents worth on the topic as well. Heh.. I just feel obliged to at least blog something to keep my blog alive, but I've been so tired and lazy recently...Ok, here goes nothing....

A well known school in the Bishan-Ang Mo Kio area
Over the past year or so, we've heard that phrase many times before, ranging from "Tau Pok" to middle finger pointing teachers, swimming coaches (supposedly) and more recently, in fact just 2 days ago, condoms. So what is it about that well known school in the Bishan-Ang Mo Kio area whose name cannot be disclosed?
Well, as a student of the well known school in the Bishan-Ang Mo Kio area as well as the one which it originally was referred to, I can't help wonder, "What's wrong with all these people?!"
In case anyone out there is wondering how obvious could the above mentioned description be, I would like to give a few examples that I've come across in the newspapers and other public platforms all the while, starting with the mildest.
1. Well known boys school in the Bishan-Ang Mo Kio area
2. Top/Prestigious school in the Bishan/Ang Mo Kio area
3. Top/Prestigious all boys school or junior college in the Bishan/Ang Mo Kio area
4. Top/Prestigious boys school in the Bishan/Ang Mo Kio area which teaches Character and Leadership Education
5. Top/Prestigious boys school in the Bishan/Ang Mo Kio area with a swimming pool
Tell me please, which person who is at least slightly savvy would not know which school(s) are being referred to above. To those who have written in this manner, my message is, if you're so damn adamant about your case then go ahead, complain, but for goodness sake and in all fairness to the 3 schools in the Bishan- Ang Mo Kio area, do specify which one so that the school at the receiving end can have a chance to defend itself.
Giving such vivid descriptions but failing to mention the school's name is but a cowardly way of hurling an accusation with an escape plan from rebuttals along the lines of "I never said it's you what. Guilty is it?"
Well then, that aside, let's get down to what got me started on this post, the condom issue. On second thoughts, I think I'll not comment given that the guy might just be one hell of an idiot. Ayy... a hectic week's finally coming to an end with only one more day left before the weekends and.... another week with tests, PW, PW and more PW.
Haha, today GP was damn crap. Did I say today? Woops, it's just er... crappier than usual. Started off with Michelle Ooi busting Jian Wei for eating a lollipop. Haha, what was damn intersting is that behind him, 5 ppl were eating and somewhere along that row, someone else was eating too. Lol... and she only caught Ruth after like half an hour later. Heh... can't help it but feel the way that she try to scold ppl/discipline the class very weird and in a way crap. She goes such a big round that in the end, it just seems a bit stupid.
Anyway, the 'highlight' of the lesson (and this post) was some cloning worksheet quiz with "a small sweet" as a prize she gave us. Quiz my foot man. With questions as subjective as Cloning is 'playing God', Cloning is 'unnatural' and A clone will not have a soul what correct answers can there be? Well, the criteria thus, is to get the same answer as her...
Well then, as a GP tutor who says that we should score well considering we're all "science students", the answers should be er.. 'scientific' right? Unfortunately not. She says that Cloning is 'playing God', Cloning is 'unnatural' and that A clone will not have a soul. Well, here's the part where things start to get really crappy.
Her argument is that cloning interfere's with the natural process and is thus akin to playing God. Wen Hao eventually points out that in that case, a heart bypass is also like playing God, which surprisingly, she agrees. She then goes on to say however, that it does not mean that when you fall sick you just lie in bed. But er... isn't seeing a doctor and not letting the illness run it's full course also against the natural process and thus playing God?
While some people may see this as a lively discussion or even a time wasting tactic or just simply guai lan-ing her, I just find it unacceptable that in order for us to win 'a small sweet', we have to share a similar viewpoint as her. It is important to note here that the point here is not about winning, because, why would I want 'a small sweet' anyway.
The point is that by making it a precondition that we have to agree with her believes to win, isn't she in a sense imposing her believes upon us or excluding opponents of her viewpoint from equal competition? Whilst this might not have been her intention, shouldn't she as a GP tutor have thought of the implications of her lesson plan in the first place?
On a side note, I am not against any religion nor the open discussion of sensitive issues such as religious considerations, but they should be done in a more direct and open manner. That said, this post was done by email... yay.

Life is sleepy
Sigh, I doubt I'll ever finish that previous post. In fact, I wonder when I'll start blogging something substantial again. The promos are still about 40 days away and already I'm so tired.

Just last weekend I had to reformat my computer about 2 to 3 times due to various errors and my bloody printer is still not working properly. Wasted a hell lot of time on it while trying to do my EOM and mug for the physics lecture test. As it turned out, I did miraculously finish both, although I only got started on my EOM at er... 11 last night? (That was when I installed Microsoft Office again.)
Well well, least things turned out fine today. Pretty much another miracle, cept that I'm still as tired as ever and it's only Monday. Oh and there's Econs test on Weds, MINDS CIP after that and PW Written Report Draft 2 due on Thurs. Yea, ie. no sleep for me the nights before. Wonder what's going to keep me going.
Oh well, I'll get by somehow; always have, always will. Nothing's forever they say. That applies to the bad things too.....right?

That time of year
It's that time of year again. The street's have been made cleaner thanks to long periods of rain in this hot season. MTV has hit free to air TV with music videos being aired through the day. Red has become the new black and fireworks light the sky.

No, it's not some New Year's countdown, it's National Day. 41 years on, this small nation state has come a long way from Orang Laut settlement to part of the Malayan empire to British colony to Japanese conquered territory back to British colony again then to a part of Malaysia and finally, back to being a sovereign state whose populace gladly adopt with cynicism the title of being a little red dot.
Ah... half the class guys gathering calls... I'll be back later <>.<>

I went to collect my spectacle lenses today. I walked into the shop, took out my spectacle box with the frame inside and told the guy I wanted to collect my glasses, i mean, lenses. (I was wearing my contact lenses at the time). The guy replied "Oh contact lenses arh?" >.<
So yea, minor mistake, after all he tried to talk to me and the phone at the same time, so much for service... but anyway I confirmed with him at least twice that he could have the lens cut for me to fit the frame there and then. Midsummer's Madness
Haha, it's lit week. Today was some event called Midsummer's Madness where they had a lot of spoofs and stuff to perhaps spread the love of lit. Well yah, totally didn't get what was going on but I'll still buy into it and be enthu abt lit!!! (Geog still rox though XD)
