The art of saying no

Sigh.. I'm failing in human relations. Sadly to date I'm still unable to say no with firmness and gentleness. It's easy with friends cause they understand; it's easy when there's a strong reason; it's easy when there's a higher order; it's easy when they don't matter.

But when they ain't exactly understanding and there's a need to maintain a good relation for future collaboration, I can't seem to do it properly. At best I become stubborn and at worst I feel my dignity being insulted.

Bah, it's so easy in theory: understand their scenario, explain your reasons or say that you have a reason that's personal and you wish for it to be respected, say no without feeling sorry or guilty, perhaps suggest a future collaboration.

Simple enough.

Now what if the other party isn't as understanding? Look for a win-win alternative? Sometimes things are so simple that there's only yes, no and no third approach. Then what? The Seven Habits suggests going for no deal then, so that both can agree to disagree this time and try again for something else next time. Yea, perfect, assuming that both parties have the same mindset. Otherwise one takes offence and there goes any future collaboration.

What then? Unless... that's a sign that future collaboration wouldn't be worth it in the first place... But then that just doesn't sound right given that we're all interdependent. Or does that come with exceptions too?

zzz Must and will improve in this area by year's end.

A Thursday Night Post

Happened to chance upon an album by someone on my facebook feed that was titled "so young..." Haha, it was a photo of mervin inside and man, he was as tall as ever but looking so boyish. Looking back at the photos of even J1, I think we've changed a lot. And wat do you know, I think army might have given me better hair, even if it still isn't exactly nice. At least the sides don't stick out like an overgrown shrub anymore..

And I can't help but think my physiotherapist is becoming a very scary person, knowing how to cause me so much pain with so little strength.. Ok, I'm going into randomness already. Goodnight.

Technology woes

Not sure what to blog about anymore, but this is the day that should be remembered (though I'll probably forget) as the day that I finally understood why some of the older generation are resistant to technology. For this is the day, that technology has failed me.

One piece went missing, another overwritten and the third just failed to upload. All in one day. I'm more stunned than disappointed really. Fortunately the damage was repairable..

In other news, the song Happy Ever Asia from DBS' community effort is remarkably decent to the extent that I'll call it nice. Lol, go google it.

Goodbye RJ

Ok.. So the rumours were there before, but baseless they were back then that it seemed highly improbable. Or at least not so fast. But alas, RI and RJ are merging. Lol, notice no there's no RG in that line because "...Sometimes girls tend to be a bit diffident when there are boys around." - Justice Judith Prakash. No offense but I just found that line to be rather amusing.

Anyway, Bob Koh's gone, he's been promoted. RJ principal will take over with 6 deputies and the name of the merged school will be Raffles Institution. Hm. I'm too tired and bogged down with other concerns to wonder if this is a good thing though my first reaction is that it seems like it'll be a bit too big and complex to manage effectively. They may share the same name but their cultures were different, quite different. Ah well, hopefully time will prove me wrong. I may have left and there may have been things I wasn't happy about but that school will always occupy a place in my heart.

Oh well, good or bad, here's the article. You decide. Auspicium Melioris Aevi.

Food is Good

ahhh... After an afternoon filled with good food and company... Who cares about growing fat? This is the life! =D It's been a long time since I've felt so contented.
