Susan Boyle.
A name that's generating 2,730,000 hits on google. A name that we will no doubt be hearing for some time to come as she continues to pursue her dream on this year's edition of Britain's Got Talent. For those who have not watched it, it's available on youtube here. The choice of song is truly brilliant too!I don't usually bother much about talent competitions. Sure, they're nice to watch, but nothing impressive cause most of it is, as the name suggests, innate. You either have it, or you don't.
But this woman totally blows me away. Not really for her singing ability, (though which I am truly envious), but mostly for the courage she had to stand there unabashed by all the sneers and eyes that cast doubt on her ability. For how in a world where that all important first impression is dominated by appearance, this woman held on to the innocent belief that substance can shine through. And this is a 47 year old who remained undiscovered but not deterred despite releasing a song on a charity CD 10 years ago.
Now talk about perseverance and self belief. Almost like a fairytale. But every now and then, don't we all wish fairytales really do come true?
"What would you do if you weren't afraid?"
