Newsflash
At 0056 this morning, Channel News Asia reports that "Troops seize centre of Thai capital in apparent coup". Later in the day as more light is shed on the situation and the reality of the overnight flash coup against the Thanksin administration sinks in, regional and local borses take a hit registering declines though sources say losses were limited.
Over at Google Analytics, the report summary for this blog traffic has also taken a beating as numbers continue to fall with the count ending at it's second lowest of only 10 visits during the day of the which ended 56 minutes before the first local reports of the coup were filed. In line with market performances in the region, analysts expect traffic to slide further, potentially hitting a new low with the loss of 40 percentage points and less than 2 hours of monitoring left.
To find out more, this reporter caught up with this blogger who was found with his nose buried in thick stacks of notes. On this development, he said that "this result was expected given local conditions" although he expresses optimism that the situation is "unlikely to worsen". When asked about when or how fast recovery will take place, he paused and said "two weeks".
Incidentally, as this reporter found out, that also happens to be when power is expected to be passed from the coup leaders to an interim government with elections likely to be held in October next year.
